About Chris Warren-Dickins LPC

The way I work

Whether it is anxiety, depression, or any other issue, it can be hard to work through this alone.  Sometimes we need a trained professional to help us, and so I will offer you that caring and confidential support.

The core of my approach is Person-Centred, and so I believe that you will be able to find the answers yourself, with a little support and guidance.  I will not approach counseling with a pre-conceived notion of what might be helpful for you.  It is not my role to give you advice or a 'diagnosis', but I will work hard with you to help you understand and manage your dilemmas.

I have been trained as an integrative psychotherapist, and so I will tailor my approach to suit your individual needs and preferences.  This is important because each person is unique, and so I need to work in a flexible way to best help you to work on the problem.  As I have been trained in this way, I am able to draw upon a number of different theories to inform our work, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Psychodynamic psychotherapy, and Gestalt psychotherapy.

If appropriate, I can offer clients a range of different ways to explore an issue.  Examples include writing exercises, drawing, visualisation, and the empty-chair technique.  I also offer short and long term work depending on your individual needs and your preferred way of working.
In this video I explain what you can expect out of a counseling or coaching session with me.

My experience

I have been qualified as a counselor and psychotherapist for more than eight years, and I am on the Survivors UK approved list of national therapists who specialise in working with survivors of sexual violence.
After I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling & Psychotherapy (2008) I was awarded a Distinction for a Masters in Counseling & Psychotherapy (2010).  This was a qualitative research project which explored male experiences of counseling and suicide.

In addition to my private practice, I am an honorary psychotherapist at an LGBT+ counseling charity in the City.  I have also gained clinical experience at a university in Central London, a secondary school, and a homeless hostel in East London.

In this radio interview I explore how anxiety around the subject of suicide often prevents people from talking about it.  I suggest that talking to a trained professional can help.  Have a listen to the radio interview and let me know what you think
