Getting stuck in therapy?

Have you been to a therapist and found yourself getting stuck? Perhaps you have tried trauma therapy, and even EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy), and you have ended up with the same symptoms. If so, you might consider EMDR 2.0.

EMDR 2.0 is the latest version of EMDR (a common treatment for trauma and many other mental health issues), and it is based on the latest research carried out by clinical psychologists such as Ad de Jongh and Suzy Matthijssen.

EMDR 2.0 relies on two principles:

1.Memory taxation - this is where a therapist uses various techniques to make it hard for someone to hold onto a trauma memory. The theory is that the more you fill up your mind, the less room there is for other tasks. Once the trauma memory has been sufficiently taxed, the amygdala is suppressed and so the trauma memory carries less emotional intensity.

2.Memory reconsolidation - This means that when someone brings up the trauma memory, it is less vivid, and we view it in a different way. For example, we don’t “re-experience” it as if it were still happening because our body can tell that it happened in the past.
