Things I need to remind myself as much as my kids (as a therapist and parent)

When it comes to our relationships (friendships, familial, and intimate), we are lifelong learners. Besides, why should the kids get all the fun? We are continuously growing, and circumstances change, so we have to remain flexible in our outlook.

Here are some of the things that I need to remind myself about relationships:

  • All relationships (including friendships) require continuous work.
  • Not all relationships were meant to last forever.
  • It helps to distinguish between friendship and surveillance.
  • Emotions are neither good nor bad. They just exist.
  • No one can tell you how you ‘should’ or ‘should not’ feel.
  • You can feel angry but you cannot be cruel.

What do you think about these? Do you have any to add?
