​What is anxiety?
 
Do you often feel tense and have worrying thoughts? Are these worrying thoughts out of proportion to the potential danger? Do you notice physical symptoms such as a racing heart, sweaty palms or trembling? If so, you may be experiencing anxiety. 
 
Different types of anxiety –

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder – Persistent worrying on more days than not for six months
 
  • Social Anxiety Disorder – Intense fear of social situations
 
  • Specific Phobias – Fear of a specific situation (for example, fear of vomiting)
 
  • Panic Disorder – A sudden onset of intense fear and discomfort that quickly reaches a peak and includes symptoms such as difficulty breathing, a racing heart, etc
 
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – This relates to intrusive thoughts forcing people to obsessively engage in behaviour.  For example, someone might believe that their family will die if they do not touch the door four times

  • Reflect on whether there is anything you need to do differently (for example, change your thoughts and assumptions, or behaviour)
